ZOOM MEETING WORK
Great work, this shows we can have anyone from anywhere to present to the club.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions the Club again had to revert to a meeting by Zoom.
This week our guest speaker was past member Paul Thomas who is Managing Director of Star Newsgroup and well known to most of us.
Paul spoke of the impacts that Covid has had on their business over the past 18 months (and ongoing). The Thomas family have always been passionate about local newspapers and the role they play supporting the local community.
Star have taken the opportunity to purchase/reproduce a number of local news papers in regional Queensland that have been closed/disbanded by the major networks who are moving to a digital format. An immense undertaking by what was a small Pakenham company until a few years ago. A great vision by Paul and his company to support local communities in a traditional paper based medium to keep the locals informed. This has also been achieved in collaboration with locals in each area.
